Dear United States,

What world leaders want to say in a joint letter to the United States, but can't.

Dear United States,

Dear United States,

The sad occasion of Pope Francis’ funeral brought us together this weekend, and his concerns in life truly pulled our conversations toward the same conclusion that we must share with you directly.

Each of us, since World War II, have relied on your stewardship of the dollar and U.S. Treasuries to manage trade and safeguard economies. However, most world leaders today share the same opinion of your President Donald J. Trump that changes our perspective on your country and the future.

Social media now is saturated with photos of our same pained expressions standing next to President Trump and struggling to maintain diplomatic composure after what we have witnessed. As responsible leaders, we cannot invite spiteful retribution on our countries by voicing our true opinion alone. But speaking with one voice is different. To borrow from your Dr. Franklin, we will hang together in this letter instead of hanging separately. So, leaving diplomacy behind, this is what we all believe.

None of us have never met a more foul person democratically elected to leadership than President Donald J .Trump. This is not rooted in some international cosmopolitan bias against an ugly American stereotype. Our deep horror almost defies description due to the breadth and depth of his depravity, avarice and incompetence. He is unable to see any relationship as anything except some primitive construction of winners and losers. Utterly incapable of holding complex thoughts based in reality, he instead dwells in an ever-shifting fantasy land rooted only by prejudice, nostalgia, corruption and ignorance.

Our disappointment, however, does not end with President Trump. Your Congress steadfastly refuses to rein in his profoundly disturbed policies. Sanity in today’s economy could have been restored in one afternoon by your Congress ending his tariff authority. Your Senate could have prevented a cabinet comprised of officials just as self-absorbed, incompetent and kleptocratic as he is. Republican leadership, from January 6th to this very day, has abdicated its constitutional role and allowed Trump to rule without restraint.

Lastly, and most importantly, we must confess our disappointment with every United States citizen. After Trump’s first term, it was obvious he never should be elected again. Everything he said in the 2024 campaign should have cost him election. Now we can forgive the Electoral College quirk that installed Trump in 2016 with a minority vote. However, returning him to office, with a popular vote win, and electing a compliant Congress as well, is all deeply disturbing.

We must now pursue a reorganization of our world economy to end reliance on the United States. The fact you, as a people, returned an unrestrained Donald Trump to office drives the rest to consider a different path. Again, we appreciate all the United States has contributed to our world. But we must move on because your country cannot be trusted with the responsibility of leadership and are no longer a reliable partner for the future.
